The Bluetooth SIG is looking for applications which use the wireless technology in additional interesting methods than wire-free headsets or keyboards, which is proffering a minimum of $23,500 as an incentive.
Taking that approach is to work with the Bluetooth tech, already embedded in phones and PCs, to try and do something exciting.
The top application gets a cheque for $15,000, at the same time as 2nd and 3rd get $5,000 and $2,500 respectively; “honourable mention” entries have a grand. That’s for a complete software, which must be submitted by 10 December and make use of no less than one Bluetooth profile.
Other sellers is billed since the “first annual” event, when you cannot get it ready over time you then can try again in 2011. But this year’s winner is going to, undoubtedly, be selling their app at the same time – ideally to one of the SIG members that are obviously interested in promoting the more interesting methods for using wireless connectivity.
Bluetooth has reached a quantity of ubiquity: only the standard handset presently lacks Bluetooth support currently. Still, few artists are using it for anything aside from headsets or car kits. Bluetooth keyboards (and mice!) can hook up with an unexpected selection of phones, but not a lot of people can easily see the point because.
And so the SIG is not actually trying to find new Bluetooth devices (though they’ll consider this type of thing in the event you drop them a line) – the competition it’s essentially regarding locating ideas people with all the Bluetooth they already have. So if you’ve a good idea of learning to make that happen then subscribe and initiate coding.
Incidentally, Thanko has given us much joy over time, from e-cigarettes to necktie / spy cameras. Though the Bluetooth Headset Wristwatch? Hell, that one appears virtually useful: the time might be popped from the wristband to accomplish double duty as a Bluetooth earpiece. Charging for two hours via USB gives you about four hours of operation, based on whether you’re with it to create calls or listen to music. Available in Japan for roughly $90.
