PDAs: Small But Multi-Functional

Let me present myself: John, main manager for a computer company. Our company are doing jobs related to software programming. Our main projects are all high-end ones. Example: the last big contract we had was for some surveillance software to be used by the city. We spent over 1 year polishing the software. Many hours were spent on it. Now we are working on smaller jobs.

My staff has five programmers. They are all well versed in computer programming. We do offer projects for Linux, Windows and Mac. Two of my programmers are part-time students and I usually made them work on the weekend. They are also the ones doing overtime the evenings. Our current project is related to some portal services. The customer wants a full portal with plenty of choices. Since we started, there have been lots of modifications. This customer is very picky.

We have high-end machines in the office besides the printers and related stuff. To keep notes of our schedule and tasks, everyone is using the HP iPAQ 4155 Pocket PC. The customer was waiting and we were sweating. Since then I made sure everyone is up to date about the project and all the details are clearly understood.

My company has been in business since 5 years so far. We grew up slowly and gained good fame for our quick deliverance. We have regular customers. I do spend lots of time with them reviewing the specifications and a lot more. The office is located in the downtown near the business district. It is a nice working place. I love my job a lot !

Telecommunications Spending High Despite Recession Say Offcom

According to Ofcom research, Britain is showing little indication of slowing its tech spending, despite the ongoing economic downturn. But we are getting wiser in the ways we spend on telecommunications.

Of those surveyed, research found that 47 percent said they would cut back on meals out and 41 percent would reduce holidays spending, compared to a low 19 percent who would choose to reduce their mobile phone spend, a small 10 percent who would actively lower their broadband spend, just Some 16 percent would cut back on TV subscriptions

Before mobile networks, TV firms and ISPs can get excited, they need to realise although most of us claim we have no intention of cutting our telecommunications spending, we have actually dropped our spending in real terms.

The reason for this is we are getting better at taking advantage of bundle deals and combining all our outgoings into a single monthly payment that incorporates TV, phone and broadband deals. Bundle deals are seeing a seven percent year-on-year rise.

Peter Phillips, with the full title of Ofcom Partner, Strategy & Market Developments said: “Despite the recession, people are spending more time watching TV, using their mobile phone or accessing the internet.” This means despite lower spending we are actually using our telecommunications even more than ever before. “As well as getting better deals we are demanding more control,” said Peter Philips “Over 25 per cent of households now use a digital TV recorder to watch programmes at a time that suits us, and 23 per cent use online catch up services like the BBC iPlayer.”

No figures were released by Offcom regarding the purchasing of telecommunications hardware, but sales of DEC phones, handsets, headsets and mobile phones remains strong despite the current economic downturn says both retailers and distributors.
