Making Telephone Calls From Prison Using Inmate Phone Cards

Inmate telephone systems have existed for a long time and they are maybe one of the few technical inventions which were not changed or improved throughout all this time, until nowadays. The inmate telephone systems were popular not only as a communication system used in jails but in many other institutions also. What is interesting is that even the mobile phones and their great success did not influence the usage of the so called inmate phone systems.

However, if you are a bit younger, you might have some problems understand what an inmate phone system is. Well, that is nothing more than connection between the telephones in institutions. Of course, calls with a third party could also be made.

You may have already understood that there is really nothing special about these inmate telephone systems. Basically, it work the same way like the built-up network between all of the telephones inside a country. But when we talk about the inmate calls, the institutions or the building plays the role of the country. It is really simple when explained this way, don’t you think so? However, let’s get back to the inmate telephone calls- you probably are interested to know how the one making the call pays for it. There are several ways but all of them involve using of the so called inmate telephone calling cards.

Prepaid inmate telephone calling cards are, without any doubt, one of the most used and preferred calling cards for inmate telephone systems. They are used by many prisons so that the prisoners can make calls and contact their relatives and friends. This kind of calling cards is usually purchased at the prison for a certain amount of money and they provide their owner with a certain amount of minutes for calls.

Anyway, there are also debit phone calling cards which are used in some inmate telephone systems. The main difference from the previous calling cards which was mentioned above is that the phone call is paid after it finishes- it is not prepaid.

However, you may have thought they are only two kinds of inmate calling cards but there is just one more- these are the standard cards. Yes, they are really called “standard” and there is no doubt that they got the best possible name since there is really nothing special or surprising about them. Anyway, for any reasons this kind of calling cards are not that much used in prisons or institutions like that.

So, you already know that there are many types of inmate calling cards available- some of them are cheaper, and others- more expensive. Unfortunately, as they are used mainly in jails, prisoners do not have the right to choose which sort of cards to purchase. The reason is that the prison has just one of these three sorts of calling cards, which is allowed for usage and purchase. That is pretty logical since an inmate telephone system could never use all kinds of calling phone cards.

At least, you already know pretty much about the variety of inmate telephone calling cards. What you should definitely not forget is that each one has its own characteristics- pros and cons and you had better know about them.
